Should you include your product name in your domain name?

The simple answer is – absolutely yes, if at all possible.

Why?

Simply because your will get an instant ranking boost for your product (or service) name in the search rankings.

Here is a sample: What do you call a little thingy that you plug in into the USB and that stores your files on it?

Flash Drive? Memory Stick? Thumb Drive? USB Stick? USB Drive?

We seem to be calling that little thing all different names. I originally called it Flash Drive, but I guess influenced by the other people I started referring to it as a Memory Stick.

Guessing the right name is going to be based on the search volume for all the possible phrases. You can use a list of Google Tools like Google Trends, or Google InSights for Search to determine what of the names is most used (has the largest search volume) in your target (geography) market.

By choosing the domain name that contains the most used search phrase for your product you wil have the best chances to get the most of the natural or organic search traffic from the search engines. That is why your product name has to be in the domain name – again if at all possible.
